316 vs 316L stainless steel.
Both contain 2 to 3% molybdenum for chloride resistance. The only major difference is carbon: 316 allows up to 0.08% and 316L up to 0.03%. The L grade stays corrosion resistant beside welds.

Why the L matters
Welding heats the metal beside the weld into a range where carbon can bind chromium and weaken corrosion resistance. Low carbon prevents most of this. That is why pharmaceutical, food and chemical pipework, which is usually welded, is normally specified in 316L.
Which to buy
For welded systems, specify 316L. For unwelded parts that need strength and chloride resistance, 316 is fine. Dual-certified 316/316L is widely made and often covers both needs.
Our advice
Put the exact grade on the order, and ask for the certificate with the heat number. For pharma and food work, keep the certificate with the installation records.

L কেন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ
ওয়েল্ডিংয়ের তাপে ওয়েল্ডের পাশের ধাতু এমন তাপমাত্রায় পৌঁছায়, যেখানে কার্বন ক্রোমিয়ামের সঙ্গে মিশে ক্ষয়রোধ দুর্বল করতে পারে। কম কার্বন এর বেশির ভাগ ঠেকায়। তাই ওয়েল্ডেড হয় এমন ফার্মা, খাদ্য ও রাসায়নিক পাইপিং সাধারণত 316L-এ নির্দিষ্ট করা হয়।
কোনটি কিনবেন
ওয়েল্ডেড সিস্টেমে 316L নির্দিষ্ট করুন। ওয়েল্ড ছাড়া যেসব অংশে শক্তি ও ক্লোরাইড প্রতিরোধ দুটোই দরকার, সেখানে 316 ঠিক আছে। 316/316L ডুয়াল-সার্টিফাইড মাল সহজলভ্য এবং প্রায়ই দুই চাহিদাই মেটায়।
